کورونر کا کردار

In certain circumstances a death will be referred to the coroner by the doctor or the registrar. Coroners are appointed by the council to investigate any sudden or unexplained death.

If you are receiving palliative care, the coroner will only be involved after your death:

  • Due to your diagnosis (such as mesothelioma)
  • If you have not been seen by a doctor in the 14 days prior to your death
  • If you are discharged from hospital to die at home and die before being seen by your GP
  • If you die shortly after admission to a hospital or hospice

During office hours – In these circumstances the doctor who writes the death certificate will need to discuss the death with the coroner’s officer, who will then refer / speak to the coroner.

Out of office hours – In these circumstances the role of the coroner’s officer is delegated to the police. This means that the police have to be involved in what seems to be an ‘expected’ death.
